People with disabilities are human. Acknowledge their differences as you would acknowledge anyone else’s uniqueness and treat them “as normal.” Do not talk down to them literally or figuratively. On Monday, 16 May 2022 we held a training of general rules of etiquette for interacting with people with disabilities for 73 of our team members.

The training was facilitated by Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) Indonesia and the Philippines team which includes of 10 facilitators namely Ibu Agnes Patongloan, Ibu Ira Julia Sari, Ibu Endah Imam, Bapak Feri Naldi, Bapak Kasihan and Ibu Rani Sawitri and also observed by Ms. Stefanie Dannenmann-Di Palma from UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).

In relations with our upcoming event, the Seventh Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction or GP2022 which will be held on 23 until 28 May 2022 with more than 100 registered participants with disabilities, we as the official venue of this global conference preparing ourselves to welcome them with readiness to serve and support all delegates and participants to have a successful and fruitful events.

The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is the main global forum to assess and discuss progress on the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The seventh session of the Global Platform (GP2022) will be organized by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) from 23 to 28 May 2022, in Bali, Indonesia, hosted by the Government of Indonesia. The event will be co-chaired by the Government of Indonesia and UNDRR.
